The DeKalb College Concert
The 1980s and 1990s were not only prolific years for me as a composer, but also a busy period of concertizing, including not only solo recitals but also collaborative performances with other musicians. Many of these collaborations led to new compositions. The program below is from a concert in which I participated with several other performers at DeKalb College near Atlanta, on September 28, 1989.
At the beginning of the concert, I joined oboist Darrell Harris in a Handel sonata. After the intermission, he and I presented my own Romance for Oboe and Piano, which I had completed in 1985.
The program also featured flutist Harold Sharp. Although he and I did not play together that evening, I subsequently collaborated with him and dedicated two compositions to him, my Variations for Flute and Piano (1990) and my Lament for Flute and Piano (1991).
In the last few years, I have revived all three of these compositions, creating modern Finale scores and getting them recorded. This recording of my Romance for Oboe and Piano was made with oboist Jenny Wheeler in 2016.
My Variations for Flute and Piano and Lament for Flute and Piano were recorded with flutist Leslie Lewis in 2018 and 2017 respectively.
