The 2019 Intercontinental Piano Competition
On November 3, 2019, I received some exciting news.
First, I learned belatedly that I had been included among the composers featured by the BMTG Intercontinental Piano Competition that year, sponsored by the Brooklyn Music Teachers’ Guild. (Click on the picture above, then click on “More…,” then on “Composers,” and then on my name under “North America,” and scroll down as needed.) More specifically, my Nine Preludes for Piano Solo were among the available selections for Round Two (“Music of Living Composers”).
Furthermore, I was informed that the first prize winner in the Advanced A Piano Solo category was Andrew Liu from Maryland, who played my Prelude No. 3 and Prelude No. 6. (The Advanced A category included pianists from North America of ages 16-18.) Consequently, he was scheduled to perform one of these preludes in the Winners Concert, to be held at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall that November 24.
I subsequently learned that another of my compositions was played by a first prize winner in the Intermediate North America piano solo category, Luke Wang, who performed my Meditation for Piano Solo.
Here is the video that Mr. Liu submitted to the competition, in which he performs my Prelude No. 3 followed by the Prelude No. 6:
